The last decade has witnessed a spurt in life science research with the advent of high throughput instrumentation technologies. The staggering volume of data generated from different “omics” experiments has stymied integration of experimental procedures and computational activities. In the present global scientific arena, bioinformatics has thus evolved as a complementary tool to biologists, assisting in interpretation of experimental data and also providing important leads for further experimental research.

On the backdrop of the incredible innovations in the field of Bioinformatics across the globe, National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC), India and Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), USA jointly organized the International Symposium on Biocomputing (ISB 2010) in February 2010, with technical cooperation from the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Major objective of the symposium was to provide a synergic platform for the researchers in Computer Science and Life Science disciplines to exchange their ideas and to promote future collaborations towards the development of improved and highly efficient bioinformatics tools. The symposium was a grand success with more than 150 researchers from 10 different countries actively taking part in the presentations and discussions.

Having inspired by the glaring success of ISB 2010, NITC and IUPUI are again joining hands to organize Indo-US Workshop on Biocomputing (ISB-2011) with a view to keep the ball rolling and to retain fruitful collaborations among the Biocomputing researchers. ISB 2011 will consist of a number of expert lectures by eminent researchers in the field on various aspects Biocomputing and Biotechnology.
